North Haven Middle School
“Renovate as new” school completed on occupied campus
With a core focus on safety, Gilbane completed construction on an occupied campus with minimal disruption to ongoing school activities and student learning. The phased expansion and renovation of North Haven Middle School included selected demolition, with an 87,000-SF addition, as well as a 53,000-SF renovation to achieve the state’s “Renovate as New” reimbursement status.
Project Overview
- Existing facility improvements included accessibility enhancements, new MEP and life safety systems, new technology connectivity and electronics and new and improved security systems
- New addition houses academic classrooms, science labs, a media center, administrative offices, the nurse’s suite and an entry lobby, along with new athletic fields with lighting fixtures
- Gilbane also supported the owner and architect in the building’s lifecycle and energy modeling efforts by incorporating the Collaborative for High Performing Schools’ guidelines to reduce energy consumption and enhance student performance
