Net-zero ready elementary school boasts dynamic learning environments

Maximizing the health and well-being of the students and teachers, this high-performance project included the renovation of an existing school and library with a large-scale addition. This net-zero project resulted in enhanced benefits for the school and community at large. Maximizing program space and serving the surrounding neighborhood by providing healthier air quality and innovative learning environments.

Project Overview

  • 21st-century learning environment, housing 725 Pre-K through fifth-grade students
  • Net-zero ready facility
  • Addition doubled the building’s usable space
  • Demolition of a portion of the existing Reed-Westover Building was adjacent to the occupied and fully operational Arlington County Westover Library Branch
  • School serves as a community asset, hosting the APS Extended Day program, community events, summer enrichment programs, and camps

Meeting the demands of attendance growth one year into the project, the project team was able to redesign and construct an additional 75 student stations with no impact to the original schedule.
