Iconic structure inspires excitement for the physical sciences
Gilbane provided construction management services for the new six-story academic research building that includes state-of-the-art research labs, offices, conference rooms, a lounge and other support space. An iconic design features an elliptical atrium that promotes collaboration and interaction among the students and faculty. The building also features a dramatic inverted glass cone that extends from the plaza through a roof opening and is the focal and gathering point of the building.
Project Overview
- New 160,000 SF academic research complex, including over 45 labs, meeting the specifications of the Advanced Measurement Laboratory complex at the National Institutes of Science and Technology (NIST)
- Six-level research facility including two ‘high bay’ floors located 50 feet below grade
- 18 prep labs totaling 9,700 SF
- Over 40 laser and condensed matter labs and nine biophysics labs totaling 4,300 SF
- LEED Gold certified
