Howard Community College, Science Engineering and Technology Building

Delivered new STEM facility to community college campus

Gilbane provided preconstruction and construction management services for the new $61.2 million STEM building to support the science, engineering, and technology disciplines. The new building includes lab space, lab service space, meeting rooms, resource rooms, administrative space, and student study space. The project achieved LEED® Gold certification and included a variety of sustainable features including bioretention ponds, energy efficient systems and building controls, and recycled/renewable materials.

Project Overview

  • Learning commons and community room on the first floor, support areas for networking, lectures and group study on the second floor
  • Intensive HVAC and fume hood infrastructure, casework, faculty offices, a greenhouse and conference space on the third and fourth floors
  • Gilbane worked closely with the college’s Department of Public Safety to design and finalize delivery routes, turn lanes and pedestrian walkway traffic
