Design-build phased renovations project features additional support spaces and infrastructure upgrades

Gilbane provided design-build services for the Rountree Rehabilitation & Re-Entry Facility, an expansion of the Santa Cruz County jail located in Watsonville, CA. The project provides 29,000 SF of new housing, which includes 64 minimum-security beds, a day-room and facility support space as well as visiting, administrative and intake/release areas.

Project Overview

Renovated space provides an educational/vocational program area, an interview/counseling room, several group rooms, indoor recreation, administrative support space, video visitation stations, restrooms and a laundry facility
Seismic upgrades to the existing facilities, renovations to the existing central control room in the medium-security building, construction of a storage addition, and installation of a large freezer unit to support on-site meal preparation
The project includes outdoor recreation, landscaping, perimeter security fencing, a refurbished parking lot, a delivery vehicle sally port and a separate transfer sally port.
The scope involved upgrades to on-site water, septic, sewer, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, telecommunications, security, fire safety and stormwater systems.
