DeKalb County Detention Facility
Careful phasing and logistics enables facility expansion
Gilbane provided construction management at-risk services for an addition to the existing Dekalb County Jail site, including 80 new beds and shell space for 56 future beds. The project required careful phasing and logistics planning on a tight site in an active downtown civic area.
Project Overview
- New addition is located East of the Public Safety Building (PSB) and connects to the existing PSB through a new exterior elevated corridor bridge
- Constructed of pre-cast concrete panels and poured-in-place concrete foundations
- The structural system is a combination of pre-cast concrete and structural steel
- Prefabrication on exterior windows significantly improved quality and reduced potential air and water leaks due to deficient seals between the frame and glass
