City of Boston’s first STEM school heightens collaborative learning

The Dearborn STEM Academy, formerly a middle school, expended to become a science, technology, engineering, and math focused school for grades six-twelve preparing students for early college enrollment. The scope of work included the abatement and demolition of an existing school built in 1918. Gilbane constructed a new 120,000-SF STEM Academy creating collaborative learning communities focused on STEM-related career clusters.

  • A MakerSpace fabrication lab with integrated 3D printers and laser die cutters to support the STEM and the Early College High School programs
  • Leveraged Lean techniques such as Target Value, Last Planner System, and design-assist to drive project delivery
