New hospital reflects state’s commitment to delivering high-quality, recovery-based treatment in behavioral health

Gilbane is the construction manager overseeing the Central State Hospital (CSH) replacement project. The new facility will cover approximately 460,000 SF and will provide 252 in-patient beds, including 111 maximum security beds and 141 civil beds. The project scope encompasses patient treatment/program areas and administrative and support services space. CSH is a specialized in-patient behavioral health treatment center that caters to acute forensic, secure forensic, and civilly committed patients. It serves as Virginia’s only maximum-security forensic behavioral health treatment program.
