Case Western Reserve University Nord Family Greenway
New greenway links Case Western Reserve University and local cultural institutions
The new design of the greenway provides space for the surrounding community to gather for events and serves as a catalyst for growth in Cleveland.
Project Overview
- Pedestrian mall with a 2,200-foot long greenway linking the heart of Cleveland’s University Circle with local surrounding neighborhoods
- The project consisted of major site improvements and soil relocation and a significant urban greening effort
- 150 mature trees were preserved to reduce stress from construction and more than 275 new trees were planted
- Wi-fi extends across the greenway and 360-degree cameras and emergency phones added for security
- The public green space provides a place for outdoor art installations, free public concerts and lectures, farmers markets, and other community events
The Nord Family Greenway project served as a catalyst for urban revitalization and community development in the city of Cleveland. The new design has created an open, public green space in the heart of a dense, urban district.
