Award-winning project earns perfect safety record and LEED Platinum certification
This 85,000 SF major expansion and renovation to the Sun Devil Fitness Complex at ASU’s main Tempe campus earned a perfect safety record with more than 180,000 incident free man-hours.
Project Overview
- The project included a partial renovation of the existing facility
- The project also included the construction of a two-court gym, second-level multi-activity gym, strength training and fitness areas, running track, office and therapy space and lounge area
- Student demand and input informed the project design
During the preconstruction phase, Gilbane evaluated the building that was designed as a post-tension concrete structure for the first floor and structural steel for the second floor and made a recommendation to convert the building to all-steel. Through these efforts, Gilbane saved the client $300,000 in trade costs and shaved two months from the schedule, and was able to eliminate additional general conditions costs.
