Highly-anticipated new community facility for the Bronx community
Gilbane provided construction management services for the design and construction of the new YMCA of Greater New York facility in the Edenwald community of the Northeast Bronx. Located on a three-acre site, the project was completed in two phases. Phase 1 involved site preparation and relocation of the existing basketball courts and security booth to make space for construction. Phase 2 included construction of the YMCA.
Project Overview
- The YMCA is comprised of four areas in three separate buildings connected by an interior corridor, including a main pavilion, an aquatics center, locker rooms and a gymnasium
- The scope also included the construction of a community garden on the roof of the main pavilion building
- The project resulted in approximately 100 new permanent jobs and more than 100 temporary construction jobs
