University of Maryland Jones-Hill House
Jones-Hill House, a beacon for sports excellence, innovation, and campus pride
Gilbane’s multi-phase renovation and expansion of the former Cole Field House created a center for athletics, research, and learning of national stature. The first phase included repositioning the historic 14,000-seat Cole Field House into a new NCAA indoor football training facility. During the second phase, Gilbane built a 315,000 SF addition to the Terrapin Performance Center. The Maryland-centric design includes a turtle shell canopy outside the tunnel to the stadium, locker room ceilings that mimic a turtle shell, custom-made light fixtures that mimic the Maryland flag, and perforated aluminum panels that highlight iconic UMCP football images.
Project Overview
- Tunnel connects Jones-Hill House to both Gossett Hall and SECU Stadium
- Full-size, indoor football field and two outdoor practice fields
- Advanced strength, conditioning, and hydrotherapy center
- Locker rooms (complete with a barber shop)
- Team meeting spaces, coaches’ offices, and a dining facility
This is a first-class, first-rate facility. This is the standard for Maryland. This is the standard that we have to set when we build facilities here for our student-athletes.
