“Lunch Atop a Skyscraper” – 30 Rock Beam Experience brought to life
Gilbane, along with Tishman Speyer and Montroy DeMarco Architecture LLP, have successfully completed The Beam interactive photo experience at the iconic 30 Rockefeller Center. The Beam, a new experience at Top of the Rock, invites visitors to recreate “Lunch Atop a Skyscraper”, the iconic 1932 photo depicting 11 ironworkers lunching precariously on a steel beam, 69 stories high, during the construction of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Visitors to Top of the Rock can now follow in their fearless footsteps by buckling up for an exhilarating ascent that rotates a breathtaking 180-degrees. From The Beam, guests will experience astonishing views of NYC’s famous Central Park and beyond.
Project Overview
- Visitors to The Beam Experience can sit on a steel beam, reminiscent of the original, located on the 69th floor of 30 Rockefeller Plaza
- As participants ascend above the observation deck platform, they’ll experience a panoramic view of Central Park while the beam rotates 180 degrees
