Enoch Pratt Free Library Renovation & Modernization
Library revitalization project bolsters community
Originally built in 1933, Enoch Pratt Free Library underwent a comprehensive modernization program while remaining fully operational during construction to continue serving the community. The detailed restoration and extensive upgrades designed by Ayers Saint Gross and Beyer Blinder Belle brought one of the most cherished and historic library systems renewed longevity.
Project Overview
- Expansion of the library’s learning environment includes a new teen and young adult wing and a designated career center
- New MEP systems, life safety, and code upgrades
- Façade restoration and roof replacement, as well as exterior window and fixture restorations
- Refurbished plaster, restored artwork, and improved interior finishes enhance the beauty of the historic structure
“We’re able to work together creatively to minimize the effect of construction intervention on the historic fabric of the building. This is really what historic preservation is about to think it through carefully.”
