Gilbane’s experience in Japan spans over 10 years. Our teams are building projects for the U.S. Federal Government and have rapid response capabilities for critical infrastructure projects.
Gilbane’s team of construction professionals in Okinawa manage integrated operations for federal government construction, environmental and fueling facility services for clients including the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Defense Logistics Agency and the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) through the USACE, Japan. Gilbane’s large work portfolio spanning multiple locations in Japan over the past ten years has helped us to establish long-term partnerships with local subcontractors, architects and engineers.
The Gilbane team is proud of their accomplishments and involvement on these representative projects:
- Japan Tsunami Emergency Pipeline Repairs, DFSP Hachinohe, Japan
Gilbane fuels specialists were immediately mobilized when the Pacific coast of Tōhoku was devastated by a 9.1-magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami to inspect and repair damaged fuel pipelines.
- Bob Hope/Amelia Earhart Elementary School, Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan: Gilbane has begun construction of a new elementary school for Kadena Air Base.
- Perform Soil Erosion Repairs, Kadena Air Base, Japan
Gilbane is repairing eroded soil areas around underground bulk fuel storage tanks. The soil areas cover and protect large, multi-million-gallon fuel tanks.
- Pipeline In-Line Instrumented Pigging and Repairs, 505th Quartermaster Battalion, Okinawa, Japan
Gilbane performed in-line inspections combined with a series of pipeline cleaning and inspection pigs. Each pipeline was cleaned with a series of progressively more assertive cleaning pigs (e.g., foam, scraping, brushed, and magnetic.) prior to inspection.
Our team members in Okinawa are proud to be building more than buildings by participating in community and industry organizations. Gilbane sponsors Okinawa U.S. Base Youth Sports and provides volunteers for the Okinawa Special Olympics. Active local memberships include the Society of American Military Engineers and the American Chamber of Commerce Okinawa.
