The Sustainability Playbook provides a go-to approach for project teams, regional offices and even employees at home to increase sustainability awareness and ultimately reduce demand for natural resources. From carpooling to waste diversion tracking, the council recognized the need to align corporate operations with the ever-changing demands placed on the environment, especially those from the construction industry. One example is using digital tools such as iPads and various software programs such as Bluebeam to view, edit, update and manage project engineering and field activities instead of using paper.
Our net-zero projects, such as Paul W. Crowley East Bay Metropolitan Career and Technical Center (MET) create enough energy within a year that is used by the building itself, reducing carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels.
Additionally, the council provides nationally- and locally-based resources to employees working on projects with LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) targets. Gilbane’s commitment to sustainability is supported by the provision of comprehensive resources for its employees to stay updated with sustainable advances and new technologies. To date, 340 Gilbane team members are LEED® Accredited Professionals, supporting our Platinum membership in the U.S. Green Building Council® (USGBC).
