In keeping with our core value of caring, Gilbane is committed to sustainability and making a positive impact on the environment now, and for generations to come.
Gilbane has established an in-house Sustainability Council to promote green construction and business practices company-wide. The Council provides nationally- and locally-based resources to employees working on a project with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) targets. Additionally, Gilbane’s commitment is supported by the provision of comprehensive resources for our employees to stay updated with sustainable advances and new technologies. To date, 404 of our people are LEED Accredited Professionals, supporting our Platinum membership to the U.S. Green Building Council® (USGBC).
Our commitment to sustainability is underpinned by our corporate social responsibility and core values. In our offices and on our projects, we are dedicated to eliminating waste, reducing pollution, promoting recycling, utilizing repurposed materials and increasing energy efficiency to reduce our carbon footprint. In 2016, 789 Gilbane projects recycled 88% of their project waste enabling us to divert a total of 148,230 tons of waste away from landfills. In addition to our focus on sustainable construction, we are devoted to giving back to the communities in which we work and live, including our involvement with Green Apple Day. In September 2017, Gilbane will participate in Green Apple Day of Service across the United States. Green Apple Day brings together volunteers, parents, teachers, students, companies and local organizations to inform and involve K-12 education institutions with sustainable initiatives.
