Federal team addresses need for 21st Century DoDEA facilities in the Pacific
Gilbane has been awarded a ¥16.7B (~$133M USD) contract to construct a new, four-story, 158,000-SF replacement Kinnick High School located at Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY), Japan. CFAY is the largest strategically important U.S. naval installation in the western Pacific.
Project Overview
- New 160,711-SF complex across two sites in the northeast quadrant of CFAY
- Site 1 will house the high school’s new extracurricular premises, including tennis courts, track and field facilities, basketball courts, and a field house
- Site 2 will house the new four-story, 158,000-SF school and a new utility shed
- Includes community instructional spaces, staff collaboration spaces, a commons area, performance space, an information center, physical education facilities, an art room, music room, science laboratories, career technical education laboratories
- Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) spaces, an administration suite, health suite, guidance counseling suite, special education suite, food service, maintenance support spaces, and a technology service center are also included.
All work for this project was constructed in and around operational facilities with the highest priority on safety for patients, guests, staff, and workers.
