Legacy Union, Bank of America Tower
Uptown Charlotte tower reaches new heights
Construction of the 620-foot-tall office tower entailed the demolition of a newspaper printing and processing facility before the new office tower and parking deck could be built. Now known as the Bank of America Tower, construction consisted of structural concrete, with a building skin of curtainwall glazing, architectural and stone-clad precast. A 100-foot-tall pyramid wrapped in ETFE tops the building, making it an iconic new landmark on the Charlotte skyline.
Project Overview
- Upon entry, the world’s largest video board greets visitors to the over one million square foot building, of which Bank of America occupies approximately 550,000 SF
- The building was awarded LEED Gold Certification
- Site work included landscaping, stone hardscape, and urban street relocation
- Contaminated soils required stockpiling, regulated disposal, and a ventilation system on all slab-on-grades for off-gassing
- Our in-house environmental group handled all design, abatement, and treatment
Gilbane was able to save the client $3.75 million, which provided a high return on the proforma.
