GSA U.S. Diplomacy Center Pavilion

Nation’s first museum dedicated to U.S. diplomacy

Gilbane provided general contractor services for the new 23,000-SF U.S. Diplomacy Center Pavilion. The facility features a multi-functional glass jewel box façade pavilion providing reception and exhibit space, as well as support spaces for the museum. The building is also the new public entrance and security screening for the U.S. Department of State (DOS) Headquarters.

Project Overview

  • Work included a new entrance/exhibition and security pavilion and involved historic building elements requiring an appropriate standard of care
  • Pavilion provides reception, interactive exhibits, and support spaces for the new museum, and security screening for the general public
  • Constructed adjacent and tied into the fully occupied and operational DOS building and required close coordination with tenants
  • Maintained a walkway for the main employee entrance to the DOS for the entire three-year duration of the project

“The Gilbane project team was a professional, spirited, hard-working group that navigated and accomplished work in a very tight workspace, met challenging unseen problems head on … to get the job/project done. Well done Gilbane.”
