Florence Roche Elementary School

Elementary schools gives back to the community

Gilbane is providing construction management services for Florence Roche Elementary in Groton, MA. This school will serve students ranging from grades K-4 and will be organized into grade-level learning neighborhoods with dedicated project areas for flexibility. This project features a unique battery energy storage system (BESS) that will collect nominal energy during daily building use. Energy is stored in the photovoltaic system, which can be used to power the school and support the Town of Groton’s power grid in the event of a power disruption.

Project Overview

  • The school boasts a media center that opens directly to an outdoor learning lab
  • A southern facing STEM lab with an outdoor patio for school projects
  • A 400-meter running track with natural turf field on the interior of the track
  • Outdoor learning lab features elements that demonstrate water conservation in the gathering of rainwater for gardens on ground level

“This is my second project with this Gilbane team and they continue to meet and exceed my expectations. This challenging project experienced severe cost escalation, but all along the way, this team was able to assist the project in value engineering
opportunities, pivot when required, and maintain the project schedule. Great job!”
