Senior Vice President, Development
Torben Arend is a Senior Vice President, Development at Gilbane Development Company, where he manages development of diverse projects across the United States. Torben leads a team of project managers and professionals in the disciplines of development, construction, and project management. His role includes the integration of transaction, design, and construction aspects of residential, educational, commercial, retail, and public-private partnership (P3) projects. Torben has been in the industry since 1994, accumulating extensive expertise in construction, management, design, finance, and development. He joined Gilbane Development Company in 2003 and provides leadership and expertise for institutional and corporate clients throughout the country.
Torben’s completed projects incorporate every aspect of real estate, including mixed-use development, student housing, medical, residential communities, parking garages, and corporate headquarters. His notable P3 projects with Gilbane include the College Town mixed-use development (Rochester, New York), the Texas A&M Hotel and Conference Center (College Station, Texas), and Rhode Island School of Design’s Living-Learning Center. Torben has developed several thousand beds of student housing, including deliveries at Clemson University, Arizona State University, Oregon State University, the University of Illinois, the University of Colorado, and Syracuse University among others. Torben holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Syracuse University and a Master of Business Administration degree in finance from Boston College. He is a member of NAIOP and holds a LEED® AP designation.
