At Gilbane, our core values are the foundation of how we conduct ourselves as an enterprise and how we treat each other, our clients, and our partners. We are committed to the highest ethical and professional standards of conduct and to upholding those standards as part of our environmental, social, and governance platform. Our annual Ethics Week is a celebration of our commitment to integrity. We use the program to share resources and materials that promote a holistic understanding of all the areas where ethics is fundamental to how we do business.

Upholding Integrity and Building Trust – Ethics Week 2023

We launched our inaugural Ethics Week in September 2022 to spotlight the importance of ethics and compliance at Gilbane and to engage our people in how we lead with integrity in our communities and our industry. Last year, we released a New Code of Ethics for our employees, and while the content remains the same, the new document better reflects the mutual commitment to ethical behavior between Gilbane the employer and its employees. The Code of Ethics has served as a roadmap to help our people identify potential ethical violations and to guide them on how to respond properly. We also shared various resources intended to further our ethical culture and to provide a safe environment for our employees to learn about the significant impact ethics has on everything we do.

This year we are excited to focus on the important relationships with our project partners, subcontractors, joint venture partners, and key suppliers. At Gilbane, we are committed to fostering relationships built on trust and respect because mutual trust and respect among project teams lead to better building and fewer issues. That commitment is grounded in our expectations that every partner and person who we do business with is equally committed to our ethical standards. Later this year, we will release a new Code of Ethics between us and our partners that reflects our mutual dedication to upholding integrity and building trust. Additionally, we provide a toolbox talk for our job sites and offices about supporting a culture of respect and maintaining a hate and bias-free workplace at all our locations. We want to make sure our people and our partners are fully aware of our Ethics Hotline, a reporting tool that facilitates reporting of concerns related to improper or unethical conduct. As a fun activity to further drive the importance of prominently displaying our Ethics Hotline poster on all our job sites and offices, we are hosting a photo contest and collecting images of how the poster is being displayed across our various locations.

Increasing Engagement

Below are additional ways we are encouraging our teams to engage and feel more connected to ethics while sharing resources available to them:

  • Video messages from employees spotlighting the significance of ethics and Gilbane’s core values
  • ‘Did you Know’ facts on Gilbane’s intranet
  • A live, companywide event featuring a project partner centered on Ethics within our ESG program
  • Team appreciation breakfasts and/or lunches
  • Begin each day of Ethics Week with an “Ethics Moment”
  • Encourage engagement by asking questions such as:
    • What does ethics mean to you?
    • Have you ever been in a situation where you were concerned about ethics on a jobsite?
