Program Design: Authenticity, Engagement and Hands-on Learning
Through a highly successful partnership with Babson College, this year-long program is designed to provide employees with hands-on leadership training that is both tactical and relationship based. The program kicks off each fall with a week-long retreat at Babson College for a diverse class of high potential leaders. Prior to attending the launch week, participants are asked to complete a series of assessments to help them better understand their personal and professional strengths.
By design, the program’s casual environment provides an ideal setting for learning with leadership topics that are relevant and fresh. Recent course additions focused on inclusive leadership, authenticity and building emotional intelligence to complement core elements of strategy, innovation and decision-making. The retreat also gives participants direct access to top executives within Gilbane’s organization and Babson’s renowned faculty.
Coming out of the fall session, participants are divided into small groups and presented with real-world challenges that executives are currently trying to solve. The teams spend the next several months working through action-learning projects with the end goal of presenting their findings and recommendations to executives during a formal presentation.

Program Outcomes: Sustaining the Talent Pipeline
A company’s leadership program is a good indicator of its investment in their future leaders, and it is critical to the success of talent management. Through this process, emerging talent is identified within the organization by leadership across the company. Individuals then progress through the program to develop necessary skills and leadership competencies to eventually move on to higher leadership roles. The same process continues each year to ensure we have a strong pipeline of future leaders to support our growth as an organization.
As a 15-time member of Training Magazine’s Top 125, our learning organization is continually assessing trends externally as it relates to content choices and program design, resulting in a high quality and interactive program that is relevant for each new class.
