How Innovation Drives Creative Solutions

Within our workplace, Gilbane continues to support growth and innovation efforts. Much of this innovation starts with our employees bringing new ideas to the table that identify improved solutions to challenges. These solutions usually come as a result of hands-on experience, where ideas for improvement build and develop inside creative minds. Take our very own Max Paradis, who recently pioneered a solution for job site camera systems.

Challenge

Although third-party live-streaming camera solutions exist in the marketplace, none were exactly meeting the specific needs of our project teams. Seeing the need for a better option, Max set out to create an improved and less expensive version for his job site in Wisconsin. He investigated and purchased equipment, ultimately creating a camera system that transmitted data directly to our own local network inside the construction trailer. This avoided having to use a cloud-based service and gave our team direct access to data and information.

Solution

His solution also reduced the project’s operational costs exponentially. What would ordinarily cost upwards of tens of thousands of dollars, was reduced by orders of magnitude. Max recognized that the existing solutions were overpriced for what they were and knew he could build a cheaper solution. The result was a web camera system with a time-lapse video that transmitted live feeds of the job site – just what the team needed but at a greatly reduced cost.

Benefits

Now fully integrated on the job site, our project team uses data from this camera system on a daily basis. The streaming information provides real-time project status to the team, as well as position and work of the crane, weather elements, and more granular data as needed. The client loves being able to see the live feed remotely, as well as time-lapse images showing the progression of the project.

By creating an environment that will let our people thrive, Gilbane is empowering our teams to accomplish bigger and better things in the construction innovation space. Keeping true to our core value of Entrepreneurship, Gilbane is supporting the vision of our teams to think outside the box to develop solutions that advance our efforts as leaders in construction.
