Construction of the new high-performance school in Daytona Beach, FL is underway

 width=Daytona Beach, FL – May 2, 2023 – Gilbane Building Company announced breaking ground on the new Turie T. Small Elementary School in Daytona Beach, FL. Constructed in 1954, the current facility was due for significant upgrades and renovations. A new energy-efficient Turie T. Small Elementary is underway, with construction behind the existing Turie T. Small Elementary School and Campbell Middle School allowing no learning disruptions and is forecasted to save the district an estimated $160,000 per year in operating costs. Once completed, the school will also function as a community revitalization project providing recreational space, medical, dental, social services, and adult education programs.

Volusia County School District master plan forecasted school upgrades and renovations, with funding provided by local capital improvement funds and impact fees. The school will incorporate natural light, open and collaborative spaces, and energy efficiency into a 21st-century learning environment.

Turie T. Small Elementary will include 850 student stations, administration offices, a cafeteria, a kitchen, a media center, mechanical rooms, and classroom spaces. As part of the campus, a parent drop-off/pick-up loop with parking, a bus loop with parking, stormwater retention, a physical education pavilion, and playgrounds are part of the overall site plan and is set to open in the fall of 2024.
