New high-tech facility contributes to UVA’s Sustainability Plan
Gilbane provided construction management services for the 61,000 SF Data Science School on the UVA campus. The Data Science Facility is the first academic building completed in the University’s Ivy Corridor precinct. The facility is geared toward collaboration, with an emphasis on innovative and flexible academic space, including classrooms, student study areas, faculty offices, research space, and public gathering space.
Project Overview
- A LEED Gold-certified building, the facility features solar panels, daylighting strategies to limit the need for artificial lighting and a green roof
- Aligns with UVA’s Sustainability Plan, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2030 and fossil fuel-free status by 2050
- Designed with inclusivity in mind, the Center features a wellness space, lactation space, and non-gendered restrooms
