University of Maryland Eastern Shore School of Pharmacy and Allied Health
New facility consolidates the university’s health programs and academic departments into one location
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore has the most health professions programs among all Historically Black Colleges and Universities nationally. To support these programs, Gilbane provided construction management services for a new 120,000 SF building housing the School of Pharmacy’s Doctor of Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences programs. Other occupants include the graduate physicians assistants’ program, Doctor of Physical Therapy program, rehabilitation services program, and exercise science (kinesiology) program.
Project Overview
- This project exceeded the small business enterprise (SBE) goal by more than 40%
- The second floor is mainly dedicated to the pharmaceutical department’s simulation labs and classrooms
- The third floor houses the campus’ multiple vivarium research laboratories, additional faculty offices and a wide variety of different research laboratories
- The vivarium research laboratory required advanced MEP to provide the lab with high-purity compressed air and other gases
“As a pharmacist myself, this new facility has very special meaning for me. This new complex will foster collaboration and better prepare our students to address the most pressing health issues of our time – particularly for our rural communities.”
