Tishman Speyer Properties, Radio City Music Hall Roof Park
New garden oasis opens atop Radio City Music Hall
Gilbane completed preconstruction and construction management services for the 24,000 SF roof park on the famous Radio City Music Hall building between 50th and 51st Streets and Fifth and Sixth Avenues. The roof park includes paved and landscaped areas, pathways, pavilions, seating, and lounge spaces.
Project Overview
- Construction included the build-out of egress corridors and tenant areas for rooftop access
- Additionally, Gilbane renovated the existing storefront and lobby to accommodate access to the roof deck
- All work was completed on a logistically challenging site concurrently with Tishman Speyer doing demolition and white box fit-out within the building
- Fiberglass forms were used to provide topographic changes and were a lightweight solution to minimize the load; The park is entirely ADA accessible
- A new waterproofing system was integrated into the roof
“What struck me most as the park started to take form is that it fits so well into the overall context of Rockefeller Center. It feels comfortable and like it was always meant to be there.”
