Gilbane leads critical airfield renovation at Offutt Air Force Base
Gilbane successfully managed the complete demolition and reconstruction of the 79-year-old runway at Offutt Air Force Base as part of a $170 million project to bring the airfield up to modern operational standards. The new design features full-depth concrete end sections, an asphalt center section, asphalt shoulders, and a new airfield lighting system to enhance safety and efficiency.
Project Overview
- The length of the reconstructed runway is 11,900FT (2.23 miles) and 1M CY of earthwork cut and fill operation was performed on the project
- Gilbane significantly elevated approximately 35% of a runway by up to eight feet to prevent future flooding
- Work included concrete and asphalt rehabilitation, new utility relocations, storm drainage, underdrain system installation, as well as sewer, water, power, and communications utilities
- Project completed on time and in accordance with DoD, Air Force, and NIBS Whole Building Design Guide standards, including CCB and UFC criteria
