The Ohio State University Pomerene and Oxley Halls Renovation
Specialized approach delivers intricate historic renovation
Our team applied a specialized approach and solutions to deliver the historic renovation of Pomerene Hall and Oxley Hall. Through re-sequencing trades and activities, the schedule was maintained and over 300-days of impact were absorbed.
Project Overview
- Pomerene Hall is a three-story plus basement, brick Jacobethan Revival-style building constructed in 1922 and was the women’s student union
- Oxley Hall is a three-story plus basement, brick English Renaissance-style building constructed in 1908 and was the first women’s dormitory on campus
- The renovated space included faculty and staff offices, conference/meeting rooms, classrooms, computer labs, data storage, and support areas
- A third component of this project was the enabling project to renovate 18,200-SF of space in Baker Commings, a two-story dining facility addition to the Baker Hall student residence building constructed in 1958, which now houses the Office of Disability Services
- Exterior restoration work was required for elements such as windows, ornate façade details, and doors to retain as much of the original 1900s historical character as possible
Having provided services for several project at Ohio State’s Columbus campus in the past, Gilbane combines its experience from previous university projects with its expertise in historic renovation to ensure a smooth and on time delivery with minimal disruption to campus activities.
