Northeastern University Mixed Use Academic Research Center
State-of-the-art research center supports University’s drive for multidisciplinary collaboration
Northeastern University’s Burlington Emerging Innovation Campus is home to two other Gilbane-built facilities, the Kostas Research Institute and the Expeditionary Cyber and the Unmanned Aerial System (ECUAS) R&D Facility. The new mixed-use Academic Research Center allows for the co-location of university, industry, and government research partners who address the capacity of communities, critical systems, and infrastructure to withstand, respond to, and recover from man-made and natural catastrophes.
Project Overview
- The facility houses the University’s Biopharmaceutical Analysis Training Laboratory (BATL), where scientists, technicians, and managers in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries get hands-on training in liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry analysis
- The 10,000-SF makerspace, fabrication, and assembly lab spaces include metal, 3D print, and water jet fabrication areas, as well as open assembly and project storage spaces
- The first floor contains a 5,000-SF jewel box conference center/collaboration hub, while the roof offers an outdoor observation deck where researchers can observe drone flights in the adjacent ECUAS R&D facility
