Leo D. Mahoney Arena, Fairfield University
New state-of-the-art arena transforms home team’s game
Designed to revolutionize the Fairfield University Stags home game and campus events, the new Leo D. Mahoney Arena is the latest successful transformation as part of the University’s 2020 Master Plan, The Way Forward. Located in the heart of the campus, the new arena is home to the University’s basketball and volleyball teams (Go Stags!), as well as concerts, commencements, and other large campus events.
Project Overview
- The 3,500-seat facility is approximately 85,000 SF and contains circular team locker rooms, a theater-style film room, a team lounge, training rooms, staff offices, a state-of-the-art broadcast and media center
- Stags Club Lounge with bar area, Stags team shop, multiple satellite concessions areas/beer gardens, and numerous back-of-house spaces
- The project team worked through challenges including complicated site enabling, demolition adjacent to an indoor pool, early buy-out packages, and rolled steel installation and shoring – all on a bustling campus
- The Leo D. Mahoney Arena celebrated its grand opening on November 18, 2022 to a sold-out crowd, marking the culmination of a truly successful project
