Major Life Sciences project designed as the “Plant of the Future”
Fresenius Kabi’s new major capital expansion 430,000-SF facility project supports the company’s strategy to expand its U.S. product portfolio and related drug delivery technologies, helping to make drugs more affordable and accessible. The expansion was designed as a ‘Plant of the Future’, allowing for future additional expansion beyond this phase and scope. The new facility includes a two-story production building with interstitial spaces, automated storage and retrieval system high-bay warehouse, a central utility building, a three-story employee entrance, a QC lab, offices, and a circulation spine to connect to the existing facility.
Project Overview
- In the production facility, there is a mix of generic drug preparation, mixing, freeze drying, and packaging in addition to cleanroom walls and ceilings consisting of some cytotoxic areas which produce cancer-fighting drugs
- The project team delivered the project six months ahead of schedule and with zero change orders from the executed GMP
- The project was executed with an exemplary safety record
- The team installed a cleanroom wall and ceiling system from a German company that had never been installed in the U.S. previously
- Gilbane partnered early with Thorne Associates, a local specialty subcontractor
- As a result, Thorne to become one of the first preferred installers in the U.S. for this specific type of cleanroom
