New state-of-the-art archives facility preserves the history of DC
In a joint-venture partnership, Gilbane and Corenic Construction are providing construction management services for a new state-of-the-art District of Columbia Archives building situated on the Van Ness campus of the University of the District of Columbia. The four-story, 120,000 SF facility will feature a research center, paper storage and cool storage for art and artifacts, exhibit space, workstations for the building’s archival staff, as well as digital storage facilities and housing for the DC Records Center.
Project Overview
- The scope of work for this project will include demolishing the existing Building 41 and constructing the new state-of-the-art facility on the tight urban campus
- The project will provide mission-critical services to all DC agencies, including records management, education, and resource sharing
- Optimize temperature and humidity performance and control and eliminate air-infiltration issues
- The facility will target LEED Gold and Net Zero Certification
The project will preserve the history of the District of Columbia while optimizing the facility and space for centralized collection storage, records processing, and digitization.
