New 21st Century net-zero school get high marks
Gilbane teamed up with StudioMB for this design-build modernization of a historic 1960’s elementary school in Washington, DC. - In the new two-story addition, larger specialized spaces such as the cafeteria, gym, and library are on the ground floor, with age-dependent classrooms and breakout spaces on the upper level
- A new pedestrian bridge connects the addition to the existing school
- Targeting LEED Gold certification, sustainable features include infrastructure for future solar panel expansion, green roofs, and a south-facing terrace on the second level.
