D.C. Department of General Services Headquarters Fit-out
New DGS headquarters masterfully delivered
Gilbane provided construction management services for the interior fit-out of the Department of General Services’ new six-story headquarters on Minnesota Avenue in Washington, DC. The tenant improvement work ran concurrently with the core and shell construction, with the fit-out beginning before the building was fully dried in.
Project Overview
- In order to meet this tight deadline, the team worked multiple shifts and installed roughly $4.5 million worth of construction each month
- Specific departmental features include items such as munitions storage, command center and fleet logistics spaces, secure reception areas, and locker room facilities
- The tenant space features communal pantries and lounge areas, huddle rooms, and conference spaces, with open workstations on the perimeter to allow natural light to travel through the space
- Architectural details such as the six-floor ornamental metal staircase, exposed ceilings, wood floors, and millwork aim to give the building a timeless aesthetic
“As the cornerstone and catalyst to the Northeast Heights redevelopment, construction of the DGS headquarters building began the long-planned revitalization of the Minnesota/Benning Corridor.”
