New DGS headquarters masterfully delivered

Gilbane provided construction management services for the interior fit-out of the Department of General Services’ new six-story headquarters on Minnesota Avenue in Washington, DC. The tenant improvement work ran concurrently with the core and shell construction, with the fit-out beginning before the building was fully dried in.

Project Overview

In order to meet this tight deadline, the team worked multiple shifts and installed roughly $4.5 million worth of construction each month
Specific departmental features include items such as munitions storage, command center and fleet logistics spaces, secure reception areas, and locker room facilities
The tenant space features communal pantries and lounge areas, huddle rooms, and conference spaces, with open workstations on the perimeter to allow natural light to travel through the space
Architectural details such as the six-floor ornamental metal staircase, exposed ceilings, wood floors, and millwork aim to give the building a timeless aesthetic
