Chaffee Trail Middle School
New Chaffee Trail Middle School enhances Duval County Public Schools with modern, sustainable design
The Chaffee Trail Middle School project for Duval County Public Schools is part of a $1.7 billion capital improvement program. The project scope included a new 124,000 SF middle school on a 32.3-acre parcel of land directly adjacent to Chaffee Trail Elementary School. The project also included new athletic fields, football/soccer, baseball, softball, tennis, basketball courts, and a track. The new school is constructed with sustainability as a priority, following Green Globes’ high-performance rating system.
Project Overview
- The project is part of a $1.7 billion capital improvement program funded by a half-cent sales tax approved in 2020
- The construction team developed a site-specific project approach with minimal design information by mining historical site reports and data showing contamination in the soils and groundwater
- The design includes 26 classrooms for 994 student stations
- A Career and Technical Education Center that supports learning programs in business, entrepreneurship, marketing, transportation and logistics, and agricultural science is also included
