Project Overview

  • The renovated space includes a new entry area, 1,300 SF gallery and gathering space, three education studios, administrative space, teen rooms, museum guides room, storage space, and meeting spaces
  • This project transformed a previously confined and separate section of the Museum into an inviting and integral space, welcoming visitors and providing staff with an updated dedicated workspace
  • The Gilbane team created a stand-alone BIM of the permanent construction, including all the MEP systems, and identified and corrected more than 50 coordination issues
  • The team worked hand in hand with Museum staff during preconstruction and construction phases to complete all work while the Museum remained functioning
  • New mechanical, fire alarm, plumbing, and fire protection services were extended from existing infrastructure within or adjacent to the space

“The Brooklyn Museum has a long tradition of providing arts education for diverse audiences across the borough and beyond. This renovation has been many years in the making. We’re so excited to offer Brooklynites and visitors from all walks of life beautiful spaces where they can connect and nurture their creative potential—where everyone is an artist.”
