Delivering permanent supportive and affordable housing in the Bronx
1920 Turnbull is the first phase of a two-phase affordable housing development in the Castle Hill/Soundview neighborhood of the Bronx, New York. Developed by Gilbane Development in partnership with Strada Development LLC and the Center for Urban Community Services (CUCS), the project will create high-quality, 100% affordable housing designed to provide long-term stability, supportive services, and sustainable living.
Project Highlights
- 22-story, 100% affordable residential building in the Castle Hill/Soundview neighborhood of the Bronx
- 228 rental apartments, including one superintendent’s unit
- 137 apartments reserved as permanent supportive housing
- 90 apartments income-restricted to households earning up to 60% of Area Median Income
- 3,500-square-foot on-site services office for resident support services provided by the Center for Urban Community Services
- Supportive housing services and rental assistance funded through the NYC 15/15 program
- Resident amenities including a bike room, exercise room, community room, laundry room, mail room, outdoor recreational space, and 24/7 lobby security desk
- Underground parking garage
- High-performance, all-electric building design
- Pursuing Enterprise Green Communities certification and Passive House certification
- Sustainable design features including high-performance window glazing, thick insulation, energy recovery ventilation systems, and electric heating, cooling, hot water, and cooking equipment
- Site remediation planned through New York State’s Brownfield Cleanup Program
