Wingo Inn Visiting Officers’ Quarters
Gilbane’s federal Design-Build team enhances living quarters for military officers.
Gilbane completed the design-build for the renovation of Wingo Inn, the visiting officers’ quarters (VOQ), and construction of a new addition. On the existing VOQ, Gilbane installed a fire alarm system, dry pipe sprinklers and converted 26 second-floor rooms into 13 suites. The team also installed ADA bathrooms, a laundry room, a vending area and re-configured the communications room. Utility upgrades included new hot-water heaters, an electrical power center and installation of a standby generator for the communications room. Site work included relocation of existing fiber optic cables, installation of domestic water lines and raw water fire lines.
New building construction consisted of a slab-on grade, load-bearing metal-stud walls, brick veneer, elevated concrete slab-on metal deck and bar joists, metal roof trusses and a standing seam metal roof to match the existing building. Guest rooms include a private bath, Anti-terrorism and Force Protection (AT/FP) compliant windows, and steel entry doors.
On Time, On Budget
The building was completed and schedule and on budget and is currently used for military officers.
