University of Nevada, Reno Facilities Maintenance Remodel
Gilbane brought modern finishes and preserved the original structure
UNR’s FMS Building stripped back to the bones, reinforced, and reimagined
Gilbane provided lump sum general contractor services for the renovation of the Facilities and Maintenance Services Building at the University of Reno, Nevada. The work included abatement, demolition, structural shoring, and rebuild of the 18,500-square foot butler building. Gilbane converted the space from a shop and dispatch building to a state-of-the-art construction management office that also includes an attached metal shop. Special inclusions were made for a sound-dampening speaker system, fully functional metal shop, and energy efficient spray foam roof.
The project was a challenging one and required dedicated teamwork between Gilbane, the University, and the designers Tectonics Design Group. As demolition progressed, multiple structural deficiencies were identified by Gilbane, remedied by Tectonics, and fixed in an affordable and efficient way. This project was for a highly rigorous client, the University’s construction department, and the Gilbane Reno team was happy to finish the project strong. This success continues to strengthen the great partnership that Gilbane and UNR have built over the last several years.
