Dunkin’ Donuts Center Renovations
Gilbane developed and implemented a phasing plan that delivered high impact and very visible improvements to coincide with important dates on the facility’s ticket-selling schedule.
Phased Planning Maintain Operations & Maximize Revenues
Formerly the Providence Civic Center, “the Dunk” was originally constructed in 1971. The completed renovation of this facility included reconfiguration and replacement of all seating, the addition of luxury boxes, installation of a new video scoreboard, and upgrades to nearly all amenities provided for patrons, athletes and performers. To accommodate scheduled sporting events and concerts during the winter season, the majority of the work was phased to be completed during the summer months.
Gilbane’s project team was instrumental in supporting the owner throughout an intensive preconstruction phase that focused on balancing the desired program with the available budget. The installation of a new $1.4 million video scoreboard was moved to the first phase of construction so it would be in place to welcome fans back for the 2006-2007 season. Gilbane targeted 20 new luxury boxes to open one year ahead of schedule so they could be marketed and sold for the second half of the season.
- 94.8% waste minimization achieved
- Expedited schedule achieved completion 3 months earlier
- Met or exceeded all key turnover dates
- Surpassed MBE/WBE goals
- Zero interruptions to scheduled events
Though challenging, Gilbane managed to maintain operations during construction and held more events throughout construction than the previous years.
“Most impressive was how Gilbane was able to deliver under difficult and challenging circumstances. Gilbane was one of the main reasons we were able to have two successful seasons while the Center was undergoing such a significant renovation.”
