AstraZeneca Building 6A Expansion, Wilmington, Delaware
The Gilbane team, sensitive to building on an active campus, ensured there was no impact to daily operations.
AstraZeneca’s expansion to Building 6A is a modern vivarium building with floor-to-floor connections to the existing vivarium. The three-story building consists of animal holding spaces, procedure rooms, surgery suites and a transgenic mice facility. The building also contains a cage washing facility featuring two pit-mounted, pass-through cage rack washers, one tunnel cage washer and two steam sterilizers.
During construction, the existing buildings were still in use. The expansion was an addition to an existing facility and adjacent to roads and high voltage ductbank. Site-work included re-routing existing storm sewers around the new basement to allow cast-in-place concrete foundations to be constructed.
AstraZeneca awarded Gilbane this project and their chemical storage facility based upon Gilbane’s successful delivery of the campus headquarters project.
