Gilbane’s Partnership with The Ohio State Buckeyes Continues – Wins Pomerene and Oxley Halls Renovation Project
Global Construction Services Firm’s Columbus Team to Blend Historical Restoration with Modern Amenities
Columbus, OH – December 18, 2014 – Gilbane Building Company’s Columbus-based team has been awarded the construction management contract for the historical renovation of Pomerene and Oxley Halls on the main campus of The Ohio State University. This $43 million contract win comes about as Gilbane finishes its work on the new Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Chemistry (CBEC) Building and the Smith Laboratory rehabilitation project – both of which were completed this year.
Brett Meyer, vice president at Gilbane Building Company commented, “Ohio State has been a great partner and we’re excited that our working relationship with the University will be continuing into 2015. Because Pomerene and Oxley Halls were built in the early 1900’s, we will be marrying the old with new – retaining the buildings’ original historical characteristics that have made them hallmarks of The Ohio State campus for decades while adding the modern 21st century features today’s University students have come to expect.”
Pomerene Hall currently houses the Department of History of Art, Student Life’s Disability Services and the Mirror Lake Creamery & Grill. Oxley Hall contains the Department of Linguistics and the Office of International Affairs. The two buildings will be renovated as one project and will house the University’s data analytics program – a new, interdisciplinary major in the College of Arts and Sciences and one of the first of its kind in the country. Also included in the contract is the interior renovation of Baker Commons to create space for faculty and staff offices, conference/meeting rooms, classrooms, computer labs, data storage and support areas.
