Glastonbury, Connecticut – June 12, 2019 – Gilbane Building Company was honored to receive two first place awards for the Connecticut Building Congress’s 2019 Project Team Awards. The award-winning projects included Slate School in the small projects category, and South Windsor Orchard Hill Elementary School in the K-12 schools category.

Slate School, a nonprofit independent K-6 school, is touted as one of the most environmentally friendly schools in the country. Designed by Patriquin Architects, the 6,000 SF footprint is intentionally small to encourage an environmentally friendly and ecologically responsible campus. The new campus opened for the 2018-2019 school year.

The highly-anticipated new Orchard Hill Elementary School was the first and largest project to be completed under the Town of South Windsor’s three-phased, ten-year Elementary Facilities Plan. Gilbane worked with architect DRA to deliver the new school on time and under budget, while working with the school and town to implement student engagement and community outreach programs. Gilbane is currently working on the second phase of the Facilities Plan which includes construction of two new K-5 schools.

“Our project teams and partners have all worked incredibly hard to deliver these best-in-class buildings for students, teachers, and the local communities. It is because of their dedication to excellence that Gilbane can continue to be a leader in the K-12 market sector for both public and independent schools. Both teams are extremely deserving of this recognition.” noted John Hawley, Vice President at Gilbane Building Company.

Held annually, the CBC project awards “recognizes outstanding building projects that exemplify project team excellence and represent the best practices in teamwork by project owners, architects, engineers, constructors and trades.” The full list of project winners can be viewed at https://www.cbc-ct.org/2019-Project-Team-Award-Winning-Projects.
