Gilbane organizes project including a new barn and fence area for non-profit farm

Bristol, Connecticut – September 21, 2019 – More than 30 employees from Gilbane Building Company volunteered on Saturday, September 21 to build a small animal barn, install fencing and run electricity and water to four paddocks at Shepard Meadows Therapeutic Riding Center in Bristol, Connecticut. The project, organized by Gilbane’s Young Professionals group and Community Service Committee, aligns with the company’s ongoing commitment to community service.

Stephanie Greenman, Preconstruction Manager in Connecticut, was the main project coordinator for Gilbane. “This has been one of the biggest and most successful community service projects we’ve completed,” noted Stephanie. “Not only is it a great opportunity to work together, you also know it’s for a good cause. We’re happy we can support Shepard Meadows and their mission.”

The project was made possible in part by generous donations from subcontractors. Gilbane supplied the design review, materials, and manpower necessary to build the barn and paddock area. In the week leading up, staff performed extensive pre-planning efforts to ensure building day would be a success. Both Gilbane and Shepard Meadows are thrilled that Bartholomew “Bart”, the Center’s newly arrived “warrior horse” dedicated to their Veterans Program, will have a new place to call home. Shelly Pope, Ed.D. Executive Director of Shepard Meadows is beyond grateful, stating, “The generosity of Gilbane and the scope of the project is more than we could have dreamed. We have a tight budget, and every time we gently asked for one more favor – they said yes.”
