Gilbane Building Company Recognized with SEWUP Award for Safety at West Valley Mission College Project
Gilbane Receives Award for Safety in Construction from Statewide Educational Wrap-Up Program (SEWUP)
Santa Clara, CA –April 16, 2018 – Leading global construction and facilities-related services firm, Gilbane Building Company, was recently honored with the Statewide Educational Wrap-Up Program (SEWUP) Safety Award for overall safety performance on the West Valley Mission College Main Building Replacement Project. This is the highest safety honor awarded by Keenan Loss Control. The new main building at Mission College took 27 months to construct. The Gilbane team worked closely with the college and district to mitigate disruption of campus life.
The award was presented to Gilbane at Board of Trustees Meeting on April 3, 2018 on the West Valley Mission Campus.

The elimination of safety risks starts at design, continues with the development & procurement of project specific plan, and ends with the successful implementation in the field by inclusion & empathy,” says Shaik Sihabuddin, Sr. Project Manager, Gilbane, “The teams commitment to implement the plan and continuously improve to address changing conditions via safety net inspections helped to achieve 235,000 Manhours with no lost time.”
In order to receive this award the project must meet specific criteria and be nominated and endorsed by Keenan Loss Control. “Gilbane set the high safety expectations for all contractors and enforced them. Your superintendents embraced the Keenan Loss Control visits and followed up on any recommendations”, said JoAnn Campus, Sr. Loss Control Consultant, Keenan & Associates, “The professional attitude of Gilbane carried through with the contractors. I was very happy to nominate this project.”
