Gilbane Building Company Celebrates Ribbon Cutting and Dedication of The Nord Family Greenway

New greenway promotes community collaboration

Cleveland, OH –  June 7, 2018 – Officials from Case Western Reserve University, Gilbane Building Company and hundreds from the Cleveland community recently gathered together to celebrate the official dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly completed Nord Family Greenway. The completion of this project is a critical step in promoting collaboration and community development across Cleveland’s University Circle district and surrounding neighborhoods of Hough, Fairfax and Glenville.

Gilbane served as construction manager at-risk for the multi-phased project, which included major site improvement and significant urban greening effort. The project, in coordination with the Cleveland Museum of Art and Case Western Reserve University, included preservation and relocation of 96 existing mature trees, removal of 150 again trees, planting of an additional 175 new trees, planting of more than 225 shrubs and perennials, 28 benches, 12 bike racks and six safe pedestrian crossings. This 15-acre area features walking and biking paths on the greenway that open a previously unused area in the heart of a dense, urban district.

“Our project team has enjoyed the opportunity to participate in the creation of a space that will serve as a catalyst for urban revitalization and community development in Cleveland.” – Ed Valentine, Gilbane Building Company Senior Project Executive
