New high school set to be the first in Rhode Island with 21st century model

width=East Providence, Rhode Island – June 5, 2019 – Officials from the East Providence School District and the State of Rhode Island, including Governor Gina Raimondo, joined students, members of the community, and Gilbane Building Company on June 5, 2019 to celebrate the official groundbreaking of the new high school that will provide a modern learning environment for future generations of students.

Gilbane is serving as construction manager at-risk for the construction of the new school, which will boast 45 classrooms, 10 science labs, maker spaces, and two greenhouses.  Being built on the existing property, the new school is scheduled for completion by the fall of 2021 and will be the first high school in the state to be built using the 21st century learning model.  Along with increased security measures, this model allows students the opportunity for collaboration and interdisciplinary study.

The Gilbane team is excited for the opportunity to work with East Providence School District on the construction of their new high school. We look forward to bringing the expertise and lessons learned we’ve amassed as one of the top builders of education facilities in Rhode Island.” – Mike Busam, Operations Manager, Gilbane Building Company

Gilbane Building Company and the East Providence School District have a long-standing relationship, dating back to before the turn of the century, when Gilbane provided construction management services for the renovation and addition to the high school in 1999.  With this new school, the students of East Providence will enjoy a state-of-the-art facility that will help prepare tomorrow’s leaders for generations to come.
